'The Holy Eucharist is the gift that Jesus Christ makes of himself, thus revealing to us God's infinite love for every man and woman...In the sacrament of the altar, the Lord meets us...and becomes our companion along the way.

'The more lively the eucharistic faith of the People of God, the deeper is its sharing in ...steadfast commitment to the mission entrusted by Christ to his disciples...Every great reform in the Church has been linked to the rediscovery of belief in the Lord's eucharistic presence among his people.'

[Pope Benedict XVI, Sacramentum caritatis, 1,2,6]
